"I am materialistic only in the literal sense of the term. Materials are carefully calculated and selected. I prefer to use found objects, especially pieces with a provenance that are familiar to me. There’s magic imbued in them from their previous life, there’s history. Most of the glass vials that I use are actually used vaccine bottles I saved from when I was a veterinary technician at a shelter. The medicine bottles are real medicine bottles I collected, scrubbed and gave a new life. I think about the wood I collect on hikes through forests and beaches. I think about all the things it lived through and what existed around it over the years before I use it again." - Erin Kuhn
