"Wolf Whistle,” paper and paint on canvas, 20 x 20 x 1, © Erin Kuhn 2020 - A “Wolf Whistle” is a rising and falling pitch directed to express sexual attraction of someone. In 2014 Shoshana Roberts created a video with Rob Bliss called “10 hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman,” which went viral about the amplitude of cat calling. Artists have an opportunity to hold the mirror up to society, to create work that exposes both the wild injustices and the insidious micro aggressions women face. I was inspired by the collective experience of women who were willing to spotlight this cultural dissonance.
